July 18 - Actions

I've heard it said that to argue with a fool proves there are two in the room. We have but one truth, the living Word of God. No spoken words can be as profound. Yet even these do not break the barrier unless we are willing to act on them. Jesus showed the purest example of stating a case when He stood before Pontius Pilot. He spoke no words but Truth and let His actions say the rest.

It is God's Will that by your good deeds you should silence the ignorant talk of fools. - 1 Peter 1:15

July 16, 2014 - Heavenly Will

What is God's Will for us in Heaven? The Lord's Prayer, Christ's living Words to His Heavenly Father, one of the first prayers learned by every Christian, asks God to make His Will the same on earth as it is in Heaven.

In Heaven, we are promised that every need is fulfilled; that we will be forgiven of every sin, ourselves having the grace to have forgiven those who sinned against us; and that there will no longer be temptation because Satan is destroyed.

Today, we pray Our Lord's prayer with confidence, knowing that through Jesus' life, death and resurrection, He has overcome evil and opened the gates for eternal life. He sets His Spirit before us in every moment so that we can call on Him for strength to banish evil from our daily lives, forgive those who offend us, and trust Him for every need. Jesus' resurrection tore the curtains of the temple, opening the gates of Heaven so that we all might have Heaven on Earth.

So, today, as you pray to Our Father, rejoice, for in your belief, God's Will is done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

"Lord, teach us to pray..." - Luke 11:2

July 14 - Choice

The way I see it is there are two choices in every decision:  You can choose to extend yourself and trust that God will provide through all the uncertainties, or you can choose the easy way and find that life will still be hard.  Because in whatever we do, wherever we are, we all must have trials. Without these challenges, without the pain, we can never receive the grace of placing all of our hope in God.

"And I will bring the third part through the fire, Refine them as silver is refined, And test them as gold is tested. They will call on My name, And I will answer them; I will say, 'They are My people,' And they will say, 'The LORD is my God.'" Zechariah 13:9

July 11, 2014 - Spirit

Did you know you hold the power of the universe in your hands? Amazing, isn't it? The same Spirit God commanded to create the heavens and the earth, part the seas, indwell the Disciples at Pentecost, and the same Spirit we honor in the Apostles Creed, is the same Spirit that each confirmed Christian accepts into His own being.

Many obstacles of our day can lead us to a pattern of despair: disappointments, heartaches, helplessness, fatigue, frustrations. Yet, in these moments we can rise up and join in the lifesaving Grace of Jesus. As Christians, we have the advantage at times of despair to find the Hope right within us that gives strength to persevere, the Hope of the Holy Spirit.

So in your next moment of doubt or pain, call on the Spirit within you and feel the power of life that God brings to those who love Him.

"and suddenly there came from heaven a sound as of a violent wind...They were all filled with the Holy Spirit." Acts :1-4.

July 8, 2014 - Calling

Many times in my life, I have watched a stranger struggle with some issue.  These moments range from something as simple as someone digging for change in her purse for a vending machine to the homeless sleeping on a city corner with only a thin coat for cover.  When I can, I stop and help. My girls lovingly call it my "save the world attitude".

Yet, sometimes it is too dangerous be that helpful person. If I am witness to a wreck on a 5 lane freeway at 60 miles an hour, the greatest help I can provide is simply to get out of the way and call for help.  Even without a phone in my pocket, my role can be to lift my voice to God and call for His intercession to help these people.

This I know: God is in control of every detail of every moment. He has already provided each need for every situation on earth. It is up to us to recognize where we are called within these moments and be ready to do the part He has set aside for us. Walk closely your Lord and be open to His call. You will be amazed what He can do through a willing and disciplined heart.

Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” - Matthew 9:37-38

July 01, 2014 - New Birth

Each morning brings us another chance to renew our lives.  Today, let us look to the heavens with a smile on our face and welcome the world as God hands it to us. Let us choose joy. Know that God is here through every moment, hard or soft, walking the path with us, offering His guidance, strength and mercy.

I know also, my God, that thou triest the heart, and hast pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of my heart I have willingly offered all these things. -  1 Chronicles 29:17a
